Campaign for Real Ale

May 2018

La Fontaine, Aldershot
A planning application to convert the pub to housing was submitted to the local Council. This is yet to be decided and the pub remains open and trading in the meantime.

Elephant & Castle (temporarily Sidewalks Bar), North Camp
This pub has reverted back to its original name following a refurbishment. There remains a strong focus on televised sport and real ale is available in the form of Sharp’s Doom Bar and a changing guest, both competitively priced.

Anchor, Knaphill
A planning application has been approved to convert part of the pub building into residential use, whilst still retaining an area for a pub, cafe or restaurant. For the time being the pub continues to trade as usual, so hopefully some type of community pub will be retained.

Duke Of Normandy, Normandy
The planning application to demolish the pub and erect 3 houses on the site.has finally been approved by Guildford Borough Council. Although the pub closed in 2012, the community of Normandy is now left with little prospect of ever having a pub again.

Old Ford, North Camp
Reopened after a short period of closure with a new landlord. Reports on any changes welcome.

Running Stream, Weybourne
The long-standing landlord is looking to retire so the lease of this Good Beer Guide listed community pub is currently available.

Bed Bar (fomerly Boston Experience), Woking
Those who have been around a while will remember the Boston Experience, an American theme brew-pub which closed in 2003. It then became a night club but has now closed completely, as part of the redevelopment of the area into Woking One. A new bar/restaurant is planned for the area.
