Not the Surrey Hants Borders Christmas Party – Beer Tasting

Friday 18 December 2020

.

Sadly we had to cancel this year’s Surrey Hants Borders Christmas Party, which is one of the social highlights of the Branch year. It won’t be the same, but in it’s place we are organising a Tutored Beer Tasting.

Branch Pubs Officer and Tasting Panel Chair, Kevin Travers, was honoured to be invited to host one of the tasting sessions at the Virtual Great British Beer Festival back in September this year and he has agreed to run a similar Beer Tasting event just for the Branch.

We all know what beer we like, but it’s not always easy to articulate exactly why like what we taste. So Kevin will set out how we can begin to describe how our palate experiences beer in relation to the ingredients and processes that have gone into brewing it.

The Tutored Tasting will be free, all you have to do is pay for your beer! The way it will work is that you sign up for the Tasting and we will source the beer and arrange for you to collect it from one of a number of locations around the Branch area (e.g. Farnborough, Farnham, Guildford, Woking) We will be focussing on local SHB breweries such as Ascot and Thurstons for this Tasting. The event will commence from 7pm on Friday 18th December via Zoom, for a 7.30pm Tutored Tasting.

We are planning on 5 beers for £15, one of which will be Thurstons Time Machine, a 10% barley wine. Payment will be arranged for early December once numbers of attendees have been confirmed. More details will be added in an update to this article when finalised , but you can register an interest now to receive further details by emailing ku.gro.armac.bhs@pxtn All are welcome, whether CAMRA Member or not, but numbers are limited and it will be first come first served. So don’t delay and register your interest by 30th November. We look forward to seeing you there.
