Closed permanently in May 2024 due to decline in membership.
By the time you read this, sadly, the Ripley Royal British Legion Social Club in Rose Lane will have closed for business forever. Like many other clubs and pubs in the country, it has fallen victim to ever rising costs, lack of committee to run it and a serious decrease in membership. We remember the good times of 500 members now down to just 40. We remember the parties, the bingo nights, the Christmas pantomimes, the competitions, the darts and snooker and pool teams that kept the club busy. And not to forget the club being packed to the gunnels for the magnificent Christmas Draws with over 400 prizes. All gone, lost forever, but not forgotten by the few remaining loyal members. The Ripley Branch of the Legion, now 102 years old, may have also closed around the same time, probably too a victim of a lack of volunteers. The committees of both thank members, past and present, for their support over the years and also to the steward, Jimmy, for over 22 years of excellent service. We leave you with a famous quote from a much-loved TV series: ‘Goodbye, Farewell and Amen’.
