Campaign for Real Ale

LocAle

What is CAMRA LocAle?

CAMRA LocAle is an initiative that promotes pubs which stock locally brewed real ale. The scheme builds on a growing consumer demand for quality local produce and an increased awareness of ‘green’ issues.

Everyone benefits from local pubs stocking locally-brewed real ale…

  • Public houses, as stocking local real ales can increase pub visits
  • Consumers, who enjoy greater beer choice and diversity
  • Local brewers, who gain from increased sales
  • The local economy, because more money is spent and retained locally
  • The environment, due to fewer ‘beer miles’ resulting in less road congestion and pollution
  • Tourism, due to an increased sense of local identity and pride

LocAle in the Surrey Hants Borders Area

To be eligible for the LocAle scheme in Surrey Hants Borders, a pub needs to regularly sell a beer brewed within 20 miles or one brewed by one of the breweries in the Branch Area, and (of course) serve it in good condition. Those pubs currently accredited with LocAle are listed below.

If you find any new pubs that you think should be accredited, or any that you think no longer qualify, please let us know via the Fill in the feedback form link on WhatPub or email the LocAle Coordinator.

A list of the breweries that qualify as LocAle for each pub in the branch area can be downloaded from LocalAle breweries for all branch pubs (Mar ’24). This list includes both LocAle breweries (20 miles) and other close breweries (up to 25 miles from the pub). You will need to unzip the file and load the .csv file into your spreadsheet program.
