The music venue at the pub was under threat of closure, following a noise complaint by a property developer who has built flats behind the venue The pub is currently licensed to play live music until midnight between Sundays and Wednesdays, until 1am on Thursdays and until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The pub, with the backing of Shepherd Neame, has started a petition asking the council to protect The Star as a music venue, which had been signed by more than 20,000 people. The Council have indicated that they support retaining the Star as a music venue.
